Who can join the Progressive Book Club community?
So I don't have to buy books (i.e. become a full member of Progressive Book Club) to join the Community?
What can a Community Member do that a visitor to the site can't?

Who can join the Progressive Book Club community?
Anyone can join the Progressive Book Club community. Either join Progressive Book Club by purchasing 3 books for $3, or click on the Join the Community button on the Community page.

What can a Community Member do that a visitor to the site can’t?
A Community Member can create Groups and Events; a MyPBC profile; a personal Blog; and a network of friends. A visitor can view the Community but not participate in it.
If I join the book club (by purchasing 3 books for $3), am I automatically a Community Member?
Yes. To participate in the Community, just log in.
GROUPS
Any
Progressive Book Club Community Member can create a Group. Non-members
wishing to create a Group must register as a Community Member or PBC
Member.
Non-members may view Groups.
Go
to Community page
Click Groups
On Groups page, scroll down to the Start
a Group box
Name your Group and click on the Start
Group button
THEN
Edit the name of your Group
Choose whether to display your Group's name in the Group directory
Select a category for your Group
Specify the location of your Group
Specify a primary zip code for your Group
Write a brief description of your Group (if your Group is displayed in
the Group
directory, the description will appear with the name)
Upload an image for your Group
Choose Group membership and permissions settings
Click Save Group
Your Group has been created. (You will receive a confirmation email.)
Your Group will be published once it is approved by a site
administrator. (You
will receive a confirmation email.)
Your
Group's URL will be sent in the confirmation email. We recommend you
bookmark it. Otherwise, you can browse the Group directory
The
person who creates the Group is the Group administrator. That person
can give administrative authority to other Group members through Settings.
What is the Group administrator authorized to do?
The
Group administrator can:
Edit Group Profile (Name, Visibility (whether displayed in Group
directory,
Category, Location, Zip Code, Description, Image, Group Membership and
Permissions)
Manage Events (approve or delete Group Events)
Manage Membership (remove members)
Manage Blog (approve or block posts)
Go
to the Groups page
Search for Groups by Keyword, Zip Code, or State
Scroll down to browse Groups by Category
Click on one of the links in the Show Me Groups box on the left side of
the
page
I just created a Group but I can't
access it. Why?
All
new Groups must be approved by the Progressive Book Club administrator.
Your Group should be approved within 24 hours.
How do I write a post on a Group Blog?
You
have to be a member of a Group to post to its Group Blog.
To post to a Group Blog, write a post on your OWN Blog, then check the
"Group
Post" box next to the name of the Group whose Blog you want to post to.
How do I invite people to join my Group?
Go
to the your Group’s
profile page
Click on Invite Friends in the top
left-hand side of the page
Enter the emails of the
people you want to invite; click Send
Message

If
you're on the Community page, click Main
under Blogs
Click Manage
Click Create Your Blog Now
Give your Blog a title (it will be publicly visible)
Click Save
Get Started: Click Create New Blog Post
Now
Write your post and save it
How do I write a post on a Group Blog?
You have to be a member of a Group to post to its Group Blog.
To post to a Group Blog, write a post on your OWN Blog, then check the
"Group
Post" box next to the name of the Group whose Blog you want to post to.

How do I create an Event?
On the Events home page click either the Get
Started button in the Create an
Event
box on the left side of the page, or the Plan
An Event link at the top of the page.
How do I change Event details?
Go
to Events page
Click Manage Events
Follow directions on the screen
Go

Enter the zip code and search radius for the Event(s) you want to find
Click Find Events
For a more targeted search, click the Go
to Advanced Search link
How do I narrow my Event search?
Go to Events page
Click the Go to Advanced Search link
Search by type of event, date, range, state
How do I invite people to my Event?
Once
you have created your
Event, enter the email addresses of the people you want to invite in
the “To:”
box. Then click Send Invitations
How will people find my Event on the
Progressive Book Club website?
If they live near your Event, the Event will display on their
MyPBC profile
page
They can also find your Event via the Event Search tool

Who can I invite to be my friend, and who can invite me to be their friend?
You can invite anybody to be your friend, whether or not they are a Community Member. However, they will have to become a Community Member in order to accept your invitation
How do I become somebody’s friend?
You can invite somebody to be your friend, or they can invite you to be theirs. If they accept your invitation, or you accept theirs, you become friends. Click on Friends in the gray top navigation bar. Enter the emails of the people you want to invite. Click Send Invitations.
Why would I want to be somebody’s friend?
You
can exchange messages
directly with friends, and you have a direct link to their profiles
from your
MyPBC profile page
How do I find a person?
Go to the Groups page
Scroll down to the Find a Member box on the left side of the page
Enter the member's Display name (username) and click Search

Click the Click Here link to search through all active members
Search profiles by name or zip code
Browse profiles that were recently created or updated

Who can create a MyPBC Profile page?
All Community Members can create a MyPBC Profile Page.
How do I create a MyPBC Profile page?
When you join the PBC Community, you have the option to create a profile. Click the Create Your Profile button at the bottom of the sign-up page.
Who can view my MyPBC Profile page?
It’s up to you. When you create your profile you can make it public or private. If it’s public, Community Members and Visitors can view your profile.
